Homework:
Assignment 1 – Create a 2-4 minute news video story for the Web. [You will have time to work on this video during Week 11 class time.]
Assignment 2 – Cover an event. Write an originally reported blog on the event. Create two 20-60 second videos supplemental videos to run along with your piece. (Use a mobile device to shoot this video.)
Blog 1 – Discuss your news tracking site’s use of video. How is video used and presented on the site? Does the site use an autoplayer or do you need to click? Is it video originally created for the Web or is it broadcast video repackaged for the Web? Who shoots the video – is it from your outlet, from other outlets, from wire sources? How are commercial integrated? If your site uses video regularly and effectively, give at least two examples of recent stories. Discuss what worked/why it was effective. If your site does not regularly use video, give at least two examples of stories where audio could have been used. Discuss how video could have been used effectively. Be specific.
In-class: Bring materials to work on an element of your final project.
